The Kenton Theatre is the chosen venue for the Royal Berkshire Academy’s next production, a dramatisation by Jane Kendall of Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride & Prejudice.
The well-known plot skilfully reflects the social mores of the age. With five daughters to marry off, was ever a mother more put upon than Mrs. Bennet?
When eligible bachelor Mr. Bingley takes up residence at nearby Netherfield Park, accompanied by his friend the proud Mr. Darcy, the Bennet household is thrown into a frenzy of excitement as Mrs. Bennet’s matchmaking skills are put to the test. Will the beautiful and sweet-natured Jane get her man? And will the modern-minded Elizabeth overcome her prejudice and find true love?
The young cast from the Academy are fast building a reputation for good entertainment, following recent successes with Les Miserables (schools edition)and Titanic The Musical. They were interviewed for ITV Thames Valley Tonight when they visited Jane Austen’s house at Chawton to prepare for the play, and were filmed learning the dance of the period, and discussing how a young person can relate to life in an earlier era.
Pride & Prejudice is at The Kenton Theatre from Wednesday to Saturday, September 24th to 27th at 7.30 p.m. with a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets, price £10, concessions £8, with a special student price on Wednesday of £5, are available from the box office on (01491) 575698.
